Day 43, Friday, 02/08/08

It's Friday morning here in the desert of SoCal - 62 and sunny by 8:30am.
This State Park is full for the weekend and we must leave so we are going back on the road by noon.
Next stop, Indio. We have a one night reservation at an RV park there - that's all they could promise yesterday when I called. They too, are full.

Indio is in the Palm Springs, Cathedral City, and Palm Desert resort areas around Joshua Tree National Park. The current plan is to spend a few days in the area primarily to explore Joshua Tree NP then move on. The NP has camping but no electricity so we may or may not camp there, however, we may not have a choice.

Yesterday we hiked up Palm Canyon here at the State Park. What a beautiful sight at the end of the hike! There is water flowing in the canyon all year and that means vegetation can flourish. So what we found at the end of the hike was a grove of huge palm trees way up the mountain. Mostly large boulders and rocks and heat and sun the whole way, then all of a sudden we were in an oasis. Pictures below but as usual they cannot convey the real beauty as seen in person. I just posted all the pictures I took while here at the park and in no particular order. Hope you enjoy them.
