Day 7, Thursday, 01/03/08

The temperature in Abilene was predicted to get to 22 last night but it did not happen. Never got below 32. We did wake up to freezing rain but not much and it soon warmed up to a mostly sunny 55. We drove 285 miles to Balmorhea State Park. In it's day this was certainly a great spot. Spring fed 72-78 degree desert oasis. But today it is a relic. Very nice campground, however, with water & electric hookups, but really not much here to stay for. The facilities for the springs are in bad need of repair. We did have about one hour to sit in the sun in t-shirts and enjoy the sun, but as soon as the sun got low we raced for the hoodies. For the weather, we could stay another day; but we are planning on heading on down the road tomorrow morning.

Looks like you all are having a nice time. As always - wish we were there! At least some of the snow is starting to melt a bit here. Looking forward to following along with your adventure. Happy trails!
